Here are my individual reviews/thoughts for volumes 1-18 of Maid-Sama! Think of these reviews as a notes app thought dump. I had the time of my life reading this series and could not! Wanted to share my immediate and unfiltered thoughts.

Read: 5/9/22 – 5/21/22

Loved the anime so I started the manga! This is a rivals/enemies to lovers and it’s chefs kiss! Misaki is student council president, she’s good at literally everything she puts her mind to and hates men. She has a secret and she works at a maid cafe bc she needs to help support her family. And of course, usui finds out! He’s pretty much perfect and the school heart throb. He’s the only one who can keep up with misaki! Every girl has a crush on him and every guy wants to be him. I really liked how these volumes set up their relationship! You see how misaki and usui work together more and how they’re such a golden duo. Some of my favorite scenes in these volumes: usui rescuing misaki from the president at miyabigaoka, usui jumping off the building to get the photo, the sports festival obstacle race! Here you see the development of their relationship and I already know it’s going to progress more in the other volumes and I can’t wait! They’re seriously comfort characters.

AHH!! Okay volume 3&4 had some of my fav scenes from the anime: THE BEACH SCENES ARE SOOOO ICONIC PLS!, misa getting hypnotized, usui getting jealous of Kuga! THE BANTER! The banter between Misaki and Usui is unmatched and I know the next volumes are just going to be my favs. Usui will make Misaki go from “I hate you” to blushing in 5 seconds and I’m obsessed! We get more of a progression in their relationship and I just can’t wait to see more! You really see just how much they rely on each other even though they won’t admit it (yet). They’re truly a golden pair. Also side note: love scenes with Yukimura hahah hes so cute and I love the friendship he has w/ Misaki and Usui!

Read: 5/22/22 – 5/24/22

OKKK THIS WAS IT! Just like I thought, this volume really picked up the story! I think this has more of a recurring plot throughout compared to the first four volumes. A lot of it revolved around the president and Vice President from miyabigaoka wanting to buy the maid cafe and there was a whole competition reflecting around that. You can tell there’s def going to be more drama w/ them later on and I can’t wait! We also see more of misaki and usui’s relationship bloom and omg I love them so much. You can see they just REALLLLLY care for one another but won’t admit it and it makes my heart go crazy! Not only did this volume continue to have great build up for their relationship, BUT SOME OF MY ALL TIME FAV SCENES FROM THE ANIME WERE HERE & EXTENDED IN THE MANGA!! I love love love the scene where misaki can’t cook TO SAVE HER LIFE but usui is hurt and sick and she takes care of him and cooks him a meal! He makes fun of her cooking but says “this was the first meal you made for me so I had to eat it” yeah I love him! My other fav scenes: when she’s sad bc she thinks he won’t eat her rice balls and he secretly eats them while she’s asleep and laughs and tells her she did great, when he FALLS FOR HER AT THE BUTLER CONTEST!!, and just other jealousy moments. We also get introduced to a new character who is also interested in misaki & that causes Usui to become territorial and get jealous. We love to see it! Overall I enjoyed a lot of the chapters here bc they were so fun and had me kicking and screaming! I cant wait to continue!

I really enjoyed this! This had my number one fav scene in the anime which was the plot at the fair with the love challenge and the confession at the fireworks! Perfection! Other scenes I really liked from the anime that were in here: Usui giving Misa his shirt after hers gets wet, Usui jealous of Shintani, Usui kissing Misa on the head after she ate too many sweets! One thing that was really interesting for me: a lot of scenes that happened before the finale in the anime actually happened AFTER the school festival! I really enjoyed the little moments between misa and usui and I think they’re SO cute, but I was a little frustrated! lol mainly bc they both admitted their feelings in the middle of this and it didn’t really go anywhere? Granted, I know it’s because misa is still trying to understand her feelings but I felt like there needed to be something that needed to change in their dynamic after they admitted those feelings. It bothered me that something didn’t really change, but I think that’s going to change in the next volume! I’m hoping they take that next step in their relationship. That being said I still REALLY enjoyed this and I absolutely loved the bonus scene! Throughout this whole volume Usui is just very sweet to Misa and really shows her how he truly feels about her and I love them so so much.

I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE! I am absolutely obsessed. This is my fav volume in the series so far! AMAZING MWAHHHH! We got such a HUGE step in misa and usui’s relationship and I couldn’t stop squealing! All the fluff, flirting, banter AHHH BLUSHING!! I absolutely love their relationship. I mentioned how in the last volume, I wish they would try to move forward in their relationship and they definitely did! There were questions of “what are we,” really good jealousy scenes, and relationship type stuff. Some of my fav scenes: misaki’s bday, the chocolate stick game!!!!, usui getting jealous, misa visiting usui and there were other great scenes. We also FINALLY get to understand some of usui’s past and I LOVE THT HE FINALLY OPENED UP TO MISA HEHE they’re so cute. There were actually a few times where I was rlly surprised as to what was happening HAHA I didn’t expect some things to happen here and I think it makes for an interesting plot and story. I cant wait to see how everything plays out. Loved this so much and can’t wait to continue the series bc I know it’s gonna get better and better!

Ok things definitley got a little complicated here omg. First of all, I really enjoyed reading about the little trip/double date!! I thought it was really cute just seeing misa and usui in a setting like this and I was happy to finally see kuga showing some interest in Sakura (even though I think she could do better but that’s a whole other story) we also see a whole other side of misaki that we haven’t before! I think she’s finally come to terms with her feelings for usui and is understanding that it’s ok to care about someone and show them that you care. You see she’s becoming more interested in solidifying “what they are” and maybe wants to put a label on their relationship?! While there was still some fun teasing and banter, I felt like we got really great soft moments between misa and usui. I can tell they both care so strongly for one another, I just love them SO much it’s insane. I think my only issue with this volume is that they’re dragging the drama between usui and his family. Like can you just tell us the whole story already bc I’m tired of waiting and some things were SO random lol but other than that, amazing misa and usui content per usual. Some of my fav scenes: her realizing she would miss him if he transferred, kissing and hiding at maid latte, her visiting his apartment to bring him apples, walking her home, admitting more feelings!

Read: 5/20/22 – 6/1/22

I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS YES! There were such good moments here I was LIVING for this usui and misa couple content. We first start off and it’s Christmas! Usui and misa go on a date at an amusement park and it’s so cute hehe one thing I really loved about this was that misa was very aware of her feelings and she wanted to make them known! I think she’s really grown a lot since the first volume. Even though she was embarrassed with her feelings, she still wanted to talk about them. I feel like this has made the teasing and banter even better! I just think this has the perfect pace and set up of events for them to become an official couple!!!!! FINALLY MY BABIES! There was still plenty of drama from usui’s end bc of the family stuff, but it wasn’t so over the top like the last volume. we also see more of a consistent story line continuing with the drama w/ usui’s fam + miyabigaoka. I think a lot of it actually made them closer. There were so many soft and heartfelt moments in here, I loved it! We actually see them TALK ABOUT FEELINGS so many times here. Another thing that just really stood out to me was them embracing being a couple. The way they announce it to everyone and just take pride in saying “ur mine” we love to see it. They’re the ultimate power couple. The school trip was probably my fav plot point in this volume!

Things got even more interesting in this volume! After Usui transfers to Miyabigaoka, their relationship is really put to the test. I feel like I’m just so happy for how much their relationship has grown over time. If you compare Misa and Usui here to them in volume 1, they handle their emotions SO differently. They’re honestly such a sweet couple and I love how much they love each other! They really care for one another and each one puts the other first and I think it’s so sweet. There is a lot more of Usui’s family drama and that causes him to leave Misaki and go to England *sheds tear* but it’s so reassuring to see how much they love and trust each other to be apart for so long. They really are soulmates. We also find the truth about Usui’s mom and dad and I thought that was SO interesting! I’m dying to know a little more. I also want to mention: I hate his brother lol and we even got some family drama from misa’s side! but overall, a really entertaining volume! Some of my fav things: Usui taking misa to visit miyabigaoka, Usui’s new classmates visiting misa and Usui popping up, Usui’s wish on the paper, the way misa talks about Usui, and I SHIP YOH AND SUZANA YEAH! Also loved the bonus story for sakura and kuga hehe they’re so so cute. I cant wait to see how Usui and misaki’s story wraps up in the next volume. GO GET YOUR MAN MISA!

Read: 6/4/22 – 6/5/22

OH MY GOSH I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY???? I am so so so so so happy with the way this story ended. I’m depressed. I LOVE MISAKI AND USUI SO MUCH THEIR STORY WAS SO AMAZING YES YES YES I wanna read it all over again. I feel like everything wrapped up together PERFECTLY?! First off, continuing the last volume, misa is preparing to go to England to get usui back and she gets help from president igarashi! I wouldn’t have ever guessed that lol but what I did see coming was that he had a thing for her. THERE WAS SUCH AN AMAZING SCENE where usui came to misa’s recuse in England and YES GO USUI! Also he was so jealous of igarashi I loved it hahah they also said each other’s first name for the first time and I LOVED THT SCENE YES. I just really felt the love usui and misaki have through the pages and it’s so amazing to see that and compare it to the previous volumes. They literally did that in here too and it made me SO EMOTIONAL! Comparing to how back then, if usui made certain comments, misa would’ve exploded, but now she kinda enjoys it and doesn’t deny it (still gets annoyed tho haha) Upon returning to Japan, misa and usui do things they need to do for their futures and continue to support each other. One thing I am so proud of: MISA FOR EMBRACING HER LIFE AS A MAID! The secret is finally out and I’m so happy for her! I love the support all her friends gave her and the highschool graduation was so bittersweet. I’d have to say her and usui’s speech were my second fav part of this. My first: THE EPILOGUE!! The 10 years later!! I loved seeing everyone get their special happy ending. It made me so happy bc all the characters (misa’s friends, student council members, the maids at maid latte + more) are SO likeable and I loved them all so much. Makes me so happy they got their happy endings and made it to usui and misaki’s weddings! Obsessed w/ usui and misa and their vows and wow this whole thing is gonna stick with me for a very long time 🫶 so sad it’s over bc I could read 92828 more volumes about misa and usui!
